Happy New Years Greetings from Portugal!
Being here in Portugal has clearly been MAGICAL. It all began in October, when going to Portugal to a Buddhist festival, I decided to go to Lisbon for 2 days before going to the festival.
On Day ONE, after arriving at my Airbnb which was next to a cemetery, I decided to visit it. It's something I've been doing for decades photographing cemeteries in my travels. What made this exceptionally magical was, as I was leaving there were 2 black cats. As you may know, my black cat, Gato, died in my arms last May. Well there was this black cat sitting in the exact position of my T-shirt design of him. As well as another black cat with a white spot on his neck, just like his brother, Ari. What an amazing magical welcome to Portugal.
On Day TWO, I decided to take the tram in front of the cemetery to Alfama. Alfama is the oldest part of Lisbon, dating back to the Moors and Phoenicians. There’s the Castle St Jorge, but due to a long line, I decided to skip it and just meander around. Walking down a small alley ("beco" in Portuguese). I met a woman, sitting in a window doing her art and we began to talk. She invited me in for tea and told me that she was subletting her place in January and February. And that how I happen to be here in Portugal.
